Kelley Calls for Rethinking Future Police HeadquartersCraig Kelley urges the City Council to reconsider its plans for a new Police Headquarters. With a $50,000,000 price tag and a location most residents will find inconvenient and isolated, Kelley says “It seems like we’re building an adjunct to the Department of Homeland Security. What people really want in Cambridgeport and Riverside and everywhere else in Cambridge is to see police officers on their streets, being a part of their neighborhoods and proactively responding to local concerns. We're putting the cart before the horse by building a Police Headquarters before figuring out how the police will address neighborhood concerns.” Further, Kelley notes, with interest the new station alone station will add 2.5 million dollars to the City’s budget every year for the next thirty years. “This isn’t small change,” Kelley points out. “We want to build this thing right the first time.” |
